Hands-on Farmland Raptor Workshop

University of Maryland Extension, Central Maryland Research & Education Center, Clarksville

MBCP’s Farmland Raptor Program is partnering with the University of Maryland Extension on an in-person, hands-on workshop and volunteer event to learn about the conservation status of Maryland farmland raptors like Barn Owls, American Kestrels, Short-eared Owls, and Northern Harriers, as well as recent efforts at UMD Research and Education Centers to conserve and monitor breeding farmland raptors. MBCP’s Alex Pellegrini and Stacy Small-Lorenz, UMD’s Extension Residential Landscape Ecology Specialist, will be co-instructors. The workshop will cover statewide conservation status and recovery efforts, followed by nest monitoring training and hands-on kestrel box building for the Extension on-farm raptor conservation efforts. Afterwards, participants will take a short raptor walk on the CMREC farm, as time allows. Qualifies for Bay-Wise Master Gardener CEUs.
